Ohio Wine Country With Friends
Sometimes the best road trips are the ones closest to home. Our friends Jennifer and John got married in 2004 at South River Vineyard. It was a romantic and beautiful ceremony. It was now 2006, Jennifer and John were expecting their first child, so a group of us decided to spend a day with Jennifer and John at the wineries in Lake County, Ohio, and an overnight at the Lodge. The ladies piled into my MINI and since Jennifer was not drinking, she was our driver. The guys were in another car, but I still do not know who was driving; Jamie may not remember either. We started at Harpersfield where we sat on blankets with friends among the rows of grapevines drinking bottles of wine and eating snacks. The weather was beautiful and the company was perfect. We ate a meal at Ferrante, crashed a wedding a Chalet Debonne then watched the sun set from Adirondak chairs behind South River Vineyard sipping wine near the big stone fireplace.
We had a lot of wine that day. So much that our friend Bill lost his wallet. We traced our steps (best we could), walked all over the parking lots and places we had been. We did find the wallet--it was in his shirt pocket the whole time. Wine with friends. Good times.
