Along the way

Driving 3,000 miles through the American Midwest was not my first choice for a vacation, but Jamie loves to drive. We brokered a compromise when he promised that we would not spend more than 6 or 7 hours in the car in any one day, and I promised that I would not over-plan and try to actually relax on our vacation. We drove through Chicago (by mistake) and headed west on I-90. We were supposed to circle the outside of downtown Chicago and head up to Schaumburg for a quick trip to the Lego Discovery Store, but I am sure there was a good song on the radio, or something, so we sort of ended up driving directly through the Chicago Skyway... oops.

Sometimes the best part of any road trip is traveling a path you didn't plan to take. Well, at least that's what I tell Jamie when I mess up my job as navigator. Despite missed turns or longer routes, we were able to stop and see some fun Americana-style spots along the highway. We stopped at each one and laughed at ourselves for being corny tourists.
